The Independent Female or A Man Has His Pride

Originally performed by Bread & Puppet Theater

Directed by Randy Milligan

This play was first performed in the 60’s by the Bread and Puppet Theatre group as part of the feminist protest of the time. It still seems relevant today and is a wonderful tribute to the centennial anniversary of the women’s right to vote and the continued struggle for equality. It has melodramatic overtones and sarcastic innuendo and the characters are stereotypical in their makeup. It’s a biting comedy with serious undertones. It’s a short piece that would need additional acts to make an evening of live theatre but as virtual theatre it’s just the right size. Our Zoom presentation evolved from many locations and set ups and was a new and exciting exploration of how we can proceed until we can gather together again as a large audience. The tight confines of a Zoom square restricts an actor in their movement but it focuses the audience on each actor like never before. Stretching the bounds of this presentation style will provide an interesting and entertaining opportunity for both actors and audience. We hope you enjoy our first attempt and we invite you to join us as participants or audience and let us know what you think, what you want and how we did.  If you enjoyed our presentation please donate what you can so we can continue to keep our theatre alive.
